Version: 5.4.x.x
Platform: Macintosh
Question:
How do I check my dsmsched.log for last completed scheduled backup?
Answer:

NOTE: As of version 5.4, the "TSM Scheduler Log" has been replaced by the dsmsched.log; this is part of the changes resulting from the the integration of the Mac client into the UNIX client. For more, see Macintosh Client now UNIX Client

The dsmsched.log contains all the information about your scheduled backup. To check your dsmsched.log:

  1. In the Finder, look in the folder that contains the TSM log files. (If you don't know where that is, see FAQ-MAC-31: Default TSM File Locations
  2. If you do not have a "dsmsched.log", you are not getting backed up automatically. Check your dsmerror.log or dsmwebcl.log next. See FAQ-MAC-11 : Checking TSM error logs (Macintosh).
  3. Double-click dsmsched.log.
  4. Go to the bottom of the dsmsched.log.
  5. Look for the line (probably within the last 20 lines) that says someting like:
        01/29/1999 20:54:32 Scheduled event 'DAILY.INCR.' completed successfully.
  6. The date/time in this line should be the approximate time of the last time you expect that an automatic backup was performed. (For most users, last night if you signed up for nightly backups.)
  7. If the date/time stamp was many days ago (more than a weekend worth if you turned off your computer for the weekend), or there is an error message, you need to check the dsmerror.log or dsmwebcl.log next. See FAQ-MAC-11 : Checking TSM error logs (Macintosh).
