Version: 5.4
Platform: Macintosh
Question:
Why do I see a "/" and not "Macintosh HD"?
What is the significance of the Macintosh client being based on the UNIX client (and not a separate Mac application?)
Answer:

With this version (5.4) IBM/Tivoli has completed the migration of the Macintosh client from a unique code base into one shared with the UNIX client. While this represents a major step forward for future Macintosh support, users will notice several changes:

  • The GUI client is now Java base
  • The client now uses NFS/UFS notation for files, rather than HFS. As such, users will see files with names like /Users/bob/Documents/hello.txt instead of Macintosh HD:Users:bob:Documents:hello.txt.
  • Scheduled backups are now performed using the Client Acceptor Daemon (dsmcad)
